Canada's new Lotto 6/49 winner bought a ticket online and scored $46 million!

He didn't even pick the numbers that got him the multimillion-dollar jackpot.

It was announced that Claude Boucher, a resident of Quebec's Bois-Francs region, won the Gold Ball jackpot in the Lotto 6/49 draw on August 27.

He purchased the winning ticket online through the Loto-Québec gaming site.

Boucher has been playing the same Lotto 6/49 numbers for years, but it wasn't those digits that made him a millionaire.

It was the Gold Ball draw that finally got him a big win.

With the Gold Ball jackpot, you don't select your numbers. Each Lotto 6/49 ticket comes with a unique 10-digit number for the Gold Ball draw.

The winning number that scored Boucher the $46 million Gold Ball jackpot was 77214145-02.

A day after the Wednesday draw, he went through his emails, and there was one that said he was a Lotto 6/49 winner.

"I was scrolling quickly and I thought, '$46,000 isn't too bad! But what are all those zeros? Oh, it's $46,000,000,'" he said.

Boucher double-checked his online gaming account and the results of the draw on the Loto-Québec site to make sure he really won $46 million.

He waited a few hours before telling his wife about the huge jackpot.

Boucher told Loto-Québec that it was an emotional moment they won't forget.

Now that he's $46 million richer, Boucher is thinking about retiring earlier than he planned on, even though he doesn't want to leave his bosses scrambling to replace him.

He is a long-time employee of Cégep de Victoriaville, a post-secondary institution in the town of Victoriaville, which is east of Montreal.

Boucher wants to take a trip to Switzerland because that's where he and his wife lived in the 1980s.

He also plans to spoil his loved ones now that he's a millionaire.
