'Avengers' Star Mark Ruffalo Is Supporting Land Defenders At The Fairy Creek Blockade
"Tell John Horgan & the BC NDP to protect these ancient forests," he tweeted.
Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo is using his voice to support land defenders at the Fairy Creek Blockade in B.C.
The Avengers and Spotlight star took to Twitter and called on John Horgan and the B.C. NDP party to protect Vancouver Island's old-growth forests and shared a petition that asks for the same.
Join me in supporting the #FairyCreekBlockade where Indigenous Peoples & activists are stopping the logging of #OldGrowth forests in British Columbia. Sign the petition to tell @jjhorgan & @bcndp to protect these ancient forests w/ 2000 years old trees!https://www.change.org/p/john-horgan-end-the-logging-of-british-columbia-s-old-growth-forests\u00a0\u2026— Mark Ruffalo (@Mark Ruffalo) 1622755730
The petition shared by Ruffalo was started three months ago and currently has over 58,000 signatures, and it calls for an end to old-growth logging in B.C.'s forests.
Indigenous land defenders and allies are currently demonstrating in and around the Fairy Creek Blockade on the territories of the Pacheedaht and Ditidaht First Nations. There have been multiple incidents of direct action, with people chaining themselves to trucks and performing sit-ins in trees.
Over 150 arrests have been made in the last three weeks since B.C. RCMP began enforcing an injunction ordering the removal of blockades trying to prevent old-growth logging on May 17, both on the ground and by helicopter.
