During an update to the public on Thursday, June 2, Dr. Deena Hinshaw stated that COVID-19 in Alberta will still be present in 2021.

The health official noted that the province cannot begin to relax COVID-19 restrictions too early.

COVID-19 is still here. It will be with us all summer and into the fall and it will almost certainly be here when we ring in the new year.

While restrictions are being lifted in the province, the official stated that in 48 hours, 94 new cases were confirmed in Alberta.

Hinshaw noted that events such as BBQs, birthday parties, and funerals have led to dozens of new cases.

The latest data reads that out of the over 8,200 cases in Alberta, 5,380 of them are in the Calgary zone.
