Ottawa Police have shared a pup-date after a man was caught on camera “severely” abusing his dog in Ottawa this week.
Officials are reassuring the public that the animal is now in safe hands. Officers can't help but love his “boopable” nose.
On August 31, Ottawa police confirmed that a 22-year-old man had been charged with multiple counts of animal abuse, after he was caught on camera “severely abusing a dog in the area of the Billings Bridge Plaza.”
The official report says the individual was responsible for multiple incidents of abuse to the same animal, all of which were caught on video.
Since the man’s arrest on August 28, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has shared a much happier update regarding the dog.
In a tweet on Tuesday, September 1, the OPS wrote, “Many have been asking about the dog mentioned in the animal abuse file yesterday.”
They confirmed that the dog, previously called Felony, had been renamed and removed from his owner.
The pup, now named Scout, is expected to recover from his injuries.
Sharing a cute selfie of two police officers with Scout, the OPS added, “And as we understand, [Scout] still has a very #boopable nose.”

Police were assisted throughout the investigation by animal welfare officials, as well as OC Transpo special constables.

The 22-year-old man has been charged twice with causing unnecessary pain/suffering/injury to an animal and twice with injuring an animal.
He was also charged four times with failing to comply with a judicial order of release.
As part of their statement, the OPS reiterated their “zero-tolerance approach” when it comes to animal cruelty.
Sending all the virtual nose-boops, Scout!
