Managing Editor, Canada

It’s been yet another record-breaking day for Canada’s Capital. On Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 cases in Ottawa shot up by 105, making it the biggest single-day increase since the beginning of the pandemic.

By confirming that over 100 people had tested positive in the last 24 hours, the city surpassed it’s previous one-day record of 93 new cases.

The previous all-time-high was set just last week, as the number of people getting sick in the region continues to climb.

This most recent spike has taken the city’s total number of positive tests to 4,258. Of these, 682 are considered to be active.

The wider province of Ontario reported 554 new cases on Tuesday, almost half of which are in Toronto.

Speaking on Monday, Premier Doug Ford confirmed that the province is currently experiencing its "second wave."

The increase is part of a wider trend that’s been spotted across Canada.

Speaking about the country’s climbing cases this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau encouraged Canadians to download the COVID-19 testing app wherever possible.
