Managing Editor, Canada

Grab your tissues! Seventeen years after their first date, Justin & Sophie Trudeau appear to be as loved-up as ever. The adorable duo are clearly not afraid to post sentimental messages about each other on social media and there's plenty of intimate posts to prove it!

On September 17, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau revealed that 17 years have passed since she went on her first date with Justin Trudeau.

Sharing a photo of them looking young and fresh-faced, she explained that the PM is still “her person” and described their life together as “an adventure.”

While it’s been a long time since the pair first laid eyes on one another, it looks like love is still well and truly in the air.

The prime minister and his wife are no strangers to swooning over one another via social media and they’ve both shared many touching tributes in the past.

From romantic anniversary messages and sentimental birthday wishes, to precious Father’s and Mother’s Day posts, these two just love sharing a soppy message.

The couple is not afraid of a little PDA either, and they've shared plenty of photos of them kissing to prove it!

While there's countless cute love notes to choose from, these Instagram posts have got to be the most swoon-worthy!

"My Best Friend"

Back in May, the prime minister paid a touching tribute to his wife on their wedding anniversary.

Describing her as his rock, partner and best friend, he wrote, “There’s no one I’d rather be on this journey with than you, Sophie. Happy anniversary, mon amour.”

"Still Making Me Laugh"

Fifteen years after their wedding day, it appears Justin Trudeau is as funny as ever.

Posting in October 2019, during the federal election campaign, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau shared an adorable photo of herself giggling with her husband.

“Still making me laugh after all these years,” she wrote.

"Another Year Of Adventures"

Back in 2018, the Liberal leader proved that he’s not afraid to get sappy on social media.

Sharing a birthday message to his wife, he described her as a “wonderful wife and mom, whom I’m so lucky to call my best friend.”

“Here’s to another year of adventures together,” he added.

"Always Looking Forward"

Sharing a candid photo of her and her husband, back in May 2019, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau acknowledged that things aren’t always easy.

Addressing her note to “my favourite hubby” she wrote, “14 years together and pulling through all the ups and downs...always looking forward!”

In the same post, she urged other couples to celebrate their own stories of “love and hardship.”

"You Guys Have My Heart"

Throughout the summer, Gregoire Trudeau shared multiple photos of her family during lockdown.

On July 3, the mom-of-three posted an adorable shot of Trudeau hanging out with two of their children.

Sharing the candid picture, she mused, “Can’t get enough of these three (and Xav!) You guys have my heart.”

"Thankful For This One"

In honour of International Women's Day 2020, the prime minister acknowledged his wife’s impressive achievements in her career and her personal life.

Sharing a photo of the two of them, he wrote, “We all have women in our lives who inspire us, and for as long as I’ve known her, Sophie’s done exactly that.”

He concluded the post by adding, “So as we celebrate the strong women in our lives, I’m extra thankful for this one.”

"Unconditional Love"

Not only is Justin Trudeau the prime minister of Canada, he’s also a husband and a father.

On Father’s Day last year, Sophie offered a rare insight into his role as a dad.

Sharing a series of intimate photos of their family, she said, “The role fathers play in our lives can, in many ways, shape who we become.”

“Justin, the unconditional love you offer our family has taught me so much,” she added.

"So Lucky To Have You"

On February 14 in 2018, the PM has a special message for his valentine.

Sharing a photo of him and his wife alongside one another, he told Sophie, “I'm so lucky to have you by my side.”

On the same day, Gregoire Trudeau posted her own tribute to the celebration by sharing an adorable clip of her youngest son.

"You Are My Person"

Seventeen years after their first date, Canada’s “First Lady” shared perhaps her sweetest post yet.

Posting an old photo of the two of them, she wrote, “Our first date was 17 years ago... we are not that young anymore, but what an adventure it’s been.”

“Through all the ups and the downs, you’re still my person. I love you.”

She went on to describe the scene of the photo as “a quiet moment we shared somewhere along the way.”

We’re not crying, you are!
