Hold on to your hats, Ottawa! 💨
Managing Editor, Canada

Residents of O-Town should be prepared for some bad weather this afternoon. That’s the message coming from Environment Canada right now, as the agency has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in Ottawa.

In a report shared at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Environment Canada warned that dangerous thunderstorms could be heading towards the National Capital Region.

100

km/h winds are heading for Ottawa

Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain should all be expected this afternoon, and into the evening.

Gusts near 100 kilometres per hour will be moving west to east, and locals are reminded that these conditions can "damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.”

Severe thunderstorms can cause tornadoes, the weather agency adds.

Stay safe out there, Ottawa!
