Have you ever dreamed of falling asleep under the stars, surrounded by wild animals? There’s a unique Airbnb near Ottawa that offers just that! You can experience off-grid life in Canada’s only two-storey yurt, and it’s a wilderness retreat like no other.

Narcity may receive a portion of sales if you purchase something from this article, which was created independently by Narcity's editorial team just for you.

Nestled in Mattawa, around three hours from Ottawa, is an extraordinary Airbnb stay that’s unlike any other rental in the area.

The Buffalo Farm is home to a one-of-a-kind yurt, perfect for anybody who’s been searching for an unusual off-grid experience.

According to the Airbnb host, the 32-foot rustic yurt is perched beside the Amable du Fond River and is surrounded by “majestic forest.”

Nearby, there’s private sand beaches for sunbathing, grassy areas for picnicking, lazy-flowing rivers for canoeing and swimming, and local trails for hiking and exploring.

If that wasn’t enough for nature lovers, the yurt boasts a 10-foot-long window overlooking a pasture, which is home to three resident buffalo.

You'll be able to sleep alongside these majestic beasts, as well as plenty more wildlife.

“Expect to see wild birds and small mammals, stunning sunsets shimmering on the river, and a canopy of brilliant stars at night,” writes the host.

The property sleeps up to 12 guests at a time. The nightly rate starts at around $120, although this increases depending on your group size.

It’s closer to a camping experience than a hotel stay, so you’ll need to come prepared. The host asks all guests to bring their own blankets and kitchen utensils, and to pack as if you’re going camping.

Outside, there’s a fire pit that can be used to keep you warm, cook meals or toast marshmallows. Safe drinking water from a nearby well is also available.

It’s worth remembering that this place is totally off-grid, which means there’s also no air conditioning, no indoor heat source and no electric to charge your phone!

That said, it’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and reconnect with yourself and the people you love the most.

The Buffalo Farm also has a tipi available to rent, which is a little bit cheaper.

Prices for the Tipi Experience start at just $89 per night, and you’ll be able to reconnect with nature and get back-to-basics in another unusual but beautiful rental.
