Here's how mobile and home internet plans from Rogers, Bell and Telus compare.

When it comes to internet and mobile plans in Canada, speed matters — and if you're comparing Rogers, Bell and Telus, you might be wondering which provider in Canada has the fastest speeds.

A recent report from Ookla, the company behind Speedtest, sheds some much-needed light on which providers are truly delivering the fastest and most reliable connections across the country. Whether you're streaming TV, gaming on the go or just need a stable connection for work, these findings could make you rethink your current plan.

The report, based on millions of user-initiated network speed tests between July and December 2024, dives deep into everything from download and upload speeds to 5G availability and gaming performance. It doesn't just look at raw speed either — it evaluates the overall quality of experience to see which networks are best equipped to handle real-life usage.

So, how do Canada's biggest players stack up? Well, the results vary depending on whether you're looking at mobile performance or home internet speeds.

Best mobile network provider in Canada

According to the report, Bell Mobility came out on top as the fastest mobile provider nationwide. With a median download speed of 99.2 Mbps and a blazing-fast median 5G download speed of 166.60 Mbps, Bell is leading the race across all technologies. It also delivered the best mobile gaming experience in Canada, making it a go-to for gamers looking to minimize lag.

But Bell isn't winning across the board. While Rogers had the lowest mobile speeds of the three providers, it took the crown for highest 5G availability, with 83.9% of its users connecting to 5G the majority of the time — a big plus if you're all about staying connected to the fastest network possible.

Telus also made its mark by offering the most consistent mobile network performance, with 84.9% of tests hitting or exceeding solid download and upload thresholds — although it was a tight race with Rogers hitting the mark 83.7% of the time and Bell close behind at 82.7%.

Best internet service provider in Canada

Meanwhile, on the home internet front, Bell also dominated. The company's Pure Fibre offering took the lead with the fastest median download speed of 332.26 Mbps and an upload speed of 284.9 Mbps — way ahead of its competitors.

It also won out in every other category, including consistency, video experience, gaming, and customer sentiment, earning it the title of best fixed network in Canada for this period. Telus frequently came in second, while Rogers lagged behind both.

It's not all sunshine for Bell, though. The telecoms giant's standard Bell Internet service consistently scored significantly lower than all other options, including smaller providers like Vidéotron and Cogeco.

Key takeaways

In short, if speed is your main priority, Bell seems to be the top choice for both mobile and home internet — assuming Bell's Pure Fibre is offered at your address, that is.

But if you value 5G access and network consistency or don't have fibre connectivity at your house, Rogers and Telus have their own advantages that could make them the better fit for your needs.
