Canada's top baby names for 2024 were revealed with big comebacks and surprising newcomers
And some longtime faves fell off the radar completely. 👀

The most popular baby names in Canada for 2024 include longtime standbys, vintage comebacks and unique newcomers.
Every year, a fresh list of Canada's top baby names gives us a peek at what's trending among new parents — and 2024's rankings are no exception.
This year's list features some surprising shifts, with a mix of longtime standbys holding their ground, vintage picks making a comeback and a few unique new names soaring into the spotlight.
According to BabyCenter, Olivia and Noah are once again Canada's reigning champs, holding onto their No. 1 spots for girls and boys born this year.
This marks another year of victory for Olivia, which has become a household favourite for parents in Canada. According to BabyCenter, the name was briefly dethroned back in 2021 by Amelia but has since held its place at the top for the last three years straight.
For boys, Noah has maintained a similar iron grip on the top spot, staying ahead of Liam, which has trailed closely behind at No. 2 since being dethroned by Noah last year.
There's some shakeup lower in the rankings though, with Ellie climbing two spots to claim third place for girls — an impressive rise for a name that wasn't even in the top 10 just two years ago. Meanwhile, Mia and Chloe, which just last year sat at No. 17 and No. 20, respectively, have shot up in popularity this year and broken into the top 10 for 2024.
For boys, Oliver stays steady in third, followed by Leo, which jumped three spots to land at No. 4. Jack held strong in fifth place — a testament to Canadian parents' love of timeless, traditional names. Short names were also popular this year, with the majority of the top 10 boys' names being four letters or less.
Classic and vintage names are definitely having a moment. Henry moved up from No. 11 last year to claim No. 7 among boys, while Violet remains a top pick for girls, sitting at No. 14 despite dropping a few spots, while Abigail returned to the top 15 after falling out in 2021. Grace also made waves, climbing an incredible 39 spots to land at No. 18 after not even cracking the top 50 last year.
If you're curious about the big movers, Kian is one name to watch — it skyrocketed an impressive 242 spots since 2023 to land at No. 80. On the girls' side, Gia climbed 40 spots to secure No. 96, while Wrenley surged up 124 spots to claim No. 93.
Other names, meanwhile, saw their popularity fade in 2024. The names falling fastest in popularity include Maverick (down 20 spots to No. 32), James (down 27 spots to No. 42 — a fast decline after having been in the top 10 just two years ago), Parker (down 42 spots to No. 90) and Rowan (down 49 spots to No. 91) for boys. For girls, Penelope dropped 23 spots to No. 91, while Maisie slid 30 spots to No. 97.
