Gen Z’s Most Searched Fashion Trends Have Been Revealed & Now We Know What's Actually Cool

Hint: we're not cool anymore.

New data has revealed which Gen Z fashion trends were searched for the most on Pinterest between December 2019 and December 2020, and this might be the first time you're hearing about most of them.

A press release sent to Narcity outlines the fashion inspiration that Gen Z Pinterest users have been searching for, and at the top of the list is something called "light academia."

Editor's Choice: 'Friends' Fans Just Noticed Something About Rachel & It Might Ruin The Show For You

"Light academia aesthetic" apparently refers to things like light wool cardigans, muted colour palettes, and plaid plants.

There are entire Instagram accounts dedicated to the aesthetic.

Second on the list is "emo princess," followed by "indie clothes," "alt fashion," and "fairy core."

A look through #emoprincess on Instagram leads us to believe that the look is similar to what millennials may have referred to as "goth."

Pinterest results for "fairy core fashion" look like a modern rendition of Little House on the Prairie or real-life Disney princesses. They include things like pastels, flowers, butterflies, and an all-around springtime vibe.

Other notable fashion trend names include "hijab hipster," "goblincore," "stem lesbian style," and "fem lesbian fashion."

The main accessories Gen Z has been searching for include crochet bucket hats, homemade rings, "hippie jewelry," and bows.
