People often talk about introducing kids to something early to "start them young," but this is something else entirely. Toronto Police reported on June 16 that a four-year-old child crashed a car in a parking lot. The young boy had apparently climbed into the driver's seat without being noticed, before taking off.

Now, this isn't a call you'd expect to hear on a regular day, and that's probably for the best.

According to a tweet sent out by Toronto Police Operations on Tuesday afternoon at 2:21 p.m., officers were en route to the scene of a particularly bizarre crash.

Police say the incident occurred in a big box store parking lot at Steeles Avenue West and Dufferin Street.

They reported that a four-year-old child had been left alone in an SUV in the lot.

The precocious kid then managed to climb into the driver's seat. From there, he took control of the vehicle.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't end particularly well.

The child apparently drove into multiple stop signs before he was plucked from the car and taken to safety.

Luckily enough, police say the child was found without any injuries after enjoying what was probably the adventure of his lifetime. So far, at least.

Constable David Hopkinson told Global News: "Think about any time you visited a big box store, a large parking lot, the large amounts of people that can be walking through the parking lot at any time and we’re talking about a four-year-old with absolutely no idea of how to control a car."

So it sounds like the situation could have been much worse than it turned out, given the fact the child was unsupervised and his extremely young age.

Narcity reached out to Toronto Police for further updates.

This isn't the only alarming story involving a four-year-old and a vehicle in recent weeks near Toronto.

A Newmarket man was recently arrested by police after he was found driving under the influence with his young daughter in the car.

As for Tuesday's incident, the investigation was still underway at the time of writing.
