Ontario Woman Who Killed A Cyclist While Drunk Got Caught Driving Impaired Again
One Ontario driver is facing charges after she was caught travelling impaired down highway 400 on Sunday night. Ontario Provincial Police reported they caught the 27-year-old woman after multiple calls came in about someone driving erratically. Darya Selinevich had reportedly served jail time back in 2015 after she hit and killed a cyclist while under the influence.
On June 21, the OPP arrested and charged Selinevich of Richmond Hill with numerous offences including operation while prohibited, possession of cocaine, driving under suspension, impaired with excess blood alcohol and impaired driving.
The incident took place around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday after the OPP received several calls from concerned motorists about a vehicle “driving erratically” on Highway 400 between Barrie and Toronto.
According to Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, Selinevich was pulled over by police on the highway near King Road. She initially tried to evade police.
The 27-year-old failed the roadside test that officers had given her, says Schmidt, and tested twice above the legal alcohol limit.
However, this isn't the first time that the driver had been caught behind the wheel while under the influence.
Global News reported that Selinevich had previously been found guilty of killing a 44-year-old cyclist in Toronto back in January of 2017.
A judge sentenced her to seven years, which was later reduced to 4.5 years after receiving credit for pre-trial custody.
Selinevich, who was 22 at the time, was reportedly driving 110 kilometres an hour along Finch Avenue West, where the speed limit was on 60 kilometres an hour when she collided with the cyclist.

However, this isn't the only driving incident that has been reported recently.
Last week, a tragic four-vehicle crash took the life of 37-year-old Karolina Ciasullo and her three young daughters.
A 20-year-old driver was reportedly seen speeding through an intersection with a police car behind him when he collided into the other vehicle. The SIU is now investigating the incident.
