The report indicates that officers responded to a call of a man with a gun in the area and discovered the gambling house in the basement of the residence upon arrival at the scene.

Police also recovered a "large amount of seized money" from the gaming house, which has been passed onto officers from the Financial Crimes Unit - Asset Forfeiture section.

The 14 individuals charged are between the ages of 30 and 62. They are scheduled to attend court on March 25, 2021.

The investigation remains ongoing, police say.

Back in September, York Regional Police shut down another illegal gaming house, only this one was operating a high-end casino out of a Markham mansion.

Police said at the time that 11 guns, $1 million in cash and $1.5 million in alcohol were seized from the property. Thirty-three individuals were charged in total.
