Metrolinx has announced that masks will be mandatory on GO Transit starting next week, bringing them in line with other transit agencies across Ontario.

The news was reportedly confirmed in a memo on Friday. Face coverings will also be compulsory for all passengers on the UP Express.

Drivers are not to deny boardings for passengers without a face covering; remember, no one is to be left behind.

Metrolinx memo

According to the memo, Metrolinx won't be going hard on enforcing the rule at first and will instead focus on making sure riders know they're supposed to be wearing them. The agency says it won't deny entry to anyone without a mask.

Masks have been mandatory for GO Transit workers for some time already, but the latest news matches policies announced by other transit, including the TTC.

The rule has also been implemented city-wide by Toronto in indoor public spaces. That had left some confusion as to how that would match up with public transit, but Metrolinx has now finally taken the step itself.
