An unusual call came into the Ontario Provincial Police West Region's dispatch office on Thursday night.

OPP West Region took to Twitter with a video about the incident and a warning for Ontarians.

"On Thursday, December 10, just shortly before 11 p.m. officers responded to a Queensway West address here in Simcoe for an unknown individual that contacted 911 reporting an emergency," said Cst. Santos.

"They called the emergency number after they e-transferred money to purchase illicit drugs that never arrived and wanted to report a theft."

Cst. Santos also mentioned that the OPP had previously received a 911 call from someone trying to order food from the dispatcher.

The officer went on to explain how this is harmful to OPP resources.

"On average, it takes two officers approximately 30 minutes to respond, investigate and clear the call. This puts enormous pressure on OPP resources when officers respond to unnecessary calls," said Santos.

The OPP would like to remind residents that 911 services are for emergency purposes only.
