He says "a lot" of doses are sitting in the freezer unused, and there's a reason for it.

An insider source took to Twitter on Thursday with a detailed glimpse into Ontario's vaccine rollout in an effort to educate the public about the province's leftover doses.

COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force member Dr. Isaac Bogoch said that the AstraZeneca vaccine is "not exactly flying off the shelves for the 55+ crowd," and a huge amount of it is sitting in the freezer unused.

"At the beginning of the week there is plenty of Pfizer/Moderna but that quickly get administered," tweeted Bogoch — he says Pfizer arrives "like clockwork" every week, and Moderna comes every two weeks but is "occasionally delayed" for various reasons.

There are very few Pfizer and Moderna doses left over at the end of the week in Ontario, but AstraZeneca "moves SLOWLY in many areas," says Bogoch.

To improve this, he says the province needs to tackle misinformation through "transparent and effective communication" and also lower the age cutoff below 55.

"Ontario is administering >100000 vaccines on most days," he writes. "While I am grateful for the increased supply of Pfizer & Moderna (this really kicked in on March 22nd), we truly don't have enough to vaccinate everyone."
