Residents may have to say goodbye to some of Toronto's essential businesses.

Mayor John Tory told CP24 on Monday that not only is he in support of a city-wide curfew, but also thinks other measures should be in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.

I think we need to go through a period where pretty much everything is closed like the spring.  Mayor John Tory

During the interview, the mayor argued that Ontario should undergo a second full lockdown to contain COVID-19.

The shutdown could be similar to what we saw last spring.

New restrictions could include the closures of big box stores and banks, which currently remain open to the public as essential services.

"Number one are big box stores," Tory said, according to CP24.

"I never understood that. If we’re going to say retail is closed, then it is closed," he added.

Premier Doug Ford is scheduled to announce a new set of COVID-19 measures this week.

The Ontario government is reportedly considering enforcing a province-wide curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
