People Are Offering Illegal Haircuts On Kijiji In Toronto Amid Salon Closures

They're not waiting for the government's permission to cut hair.

As lockdown restrictions remain in place in Toronto, some hairdressers are resorting to illicit tactics to stay in business.

Dozens of ads are being posted on Kijiji that offer discreet cuts from people who claim to be experienced barbers and hairdressers.

Some posts offer services in the hairdresser's garage or bedroom, while others offer mobile house calls.  

It seems that illegal lockdown haircuts are not that uncommon in Toronto. In an interview with Toronto Life, co-owner of the Glassbox Barbershop Peter Gosling said he "saw one video of a barber hosting a haircutting party in his condo."

"Or you see these salons where they’ve got garbage bags taped up on all the windows," he said. "What do you think is going on behind there?"

Both Doug Ford and Toronto Mayor John Tory have said recently that restrictions may be loosened to allow salons to reopen for outdoor services, and an announcement on this might come today.
