One of the newest Toronto Raptors has already made history before even hitting the court.

The 2021 NBA Draft was held yesterday, and the Toronto team drafted their first-ever Canadian, Dalano Banton, when the team selected him in the second round of picks. On top of being Canadian, Banton is also from the 6ix.

"To draft the first Canadian kid, I'm sure, was cool for all of us to hear on the broadcast, 'Toronto Raptors select Dalano Banton from Toronto,' right? That'll probably go down for a while," Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said after the draft.

Toronto's beloved rapper and avid Raptors fan, Drake, gave a shout out to Banton on his IG stories by welcoming the new player back home. Rapper Kardinal Offishall also expressed his excitement in the Raptors Instagram post, commenting: "I'm just here to represent the Jamaicans who will be first in line to buy a jersey that says Banton on the back."

Banton was playing for Nebraska prior to the NBA Drafts. Recently on Instagram, he thanked Husker Nation for having him on the team, saying that he will "always bleed red and white," which, ironically, is representative of Canada, too.
