Vancouver's Massive Nordstrom Is Boarded Up Again After US Stores Were Looted

As protests and calls for justice ring out nationwide, stores are feeling anxious over looters and riots. Just days after taking down the plywood from its store windows, Vancouver's Nordstrom is boarded up again. Meanwhile, south of the border, many of their locations have been broken into and looted recently. 

On Tuesday, June 2, photos of workers putting plywood boards back onto the windows surfaced on social media. Vancouver's Nordstrom Location right in the centre of downtown was being boarded up again.

"Out of an abundance of caution, some of our storefronts are being boarded," wrote Nordstrom to Narcity when asked why their Vancouver location closed despite the mostly peaceful protests the city has seen.

"We’re paying close attention to potential gatherings that may take place in cities across Canada and the U.S. this week," they said.

"To help keep our employees and customers safe, we are adjusting hours and temporarily closing stores in some locations."

They continued that you can find the most up-to-date information on their openings and operating hours on their website.

It's been only a little over a week since the boards came down and the store reopened on Friday, May 22. But now, security seems tighter than ever. Some Twitter posts show guards by an entrance.

"Looks like @Nordstrom Vancouver isn't taking any chances. 6 security guards standing near the entrances too," wrote one user.

Earlier, several Nordstrom locations were "impacted by gatherings in our cities this weekend," according to a notice on their site Monday, June 1.

On the West Coast, stores were looted in Los Angeles and Seattle.

The brand says that they "continue to believe as strongly as ever that tremendous change is needed to address the issues facing Black people in our country today."

"We can fix the damage to our stores. Windows and merchandise can be replaced," they wrote.
