It's almost May, but that doesn't mean Ontario's weather is ready for spring, as parts of the province are in for some downright cold and snowy conditions today.

"Wintry weather is making a comeback in parts of northern Ontario as a new low-pressure system rounds out April with snow, freezing rain and ice," says The Weather Network.

Environment Canada has issued Special Weather Statements for freezing rain in northwest Ontario and heavy rain in the northeast for Monday, with the possibility of up to three millimetres of ice buildup, so you'll want to be careful if you have to be out on the road.

"Rain will begin Monday morning across northern Ontario, quickly changing over to mixed precipitation for communities north of Thunder Bay," says TWN. "The changeover will arrive for the Lake Superior shores through the afternoon."

This means that some areas could see between five and 15 centimetres of snow.

For southern Ontario, the weather is looking grey for the last two days of April as rain moves in on Monday.

"In addition to the rain, a risk for strong thunderstorms lies from Windsor to Sarnia as the system steams into Canada," says TWN. "Small hail and gusty winds are the main hazards with these storms."

The storm will hit the GTA later in the evening and then head toward eastern Ontario overnight, but that doesn't mean the threat is over for the southern part of the province.

"Yet another round of rain showers will move into southern Ontario on Tuesday morning, persisting through the afternoon and into the evening and ending April off on a damp note," says the weather agency.

Don't forget your umbrellas, folks!
