Dangerous weather is headed for Ontario this week as temps could hit 45 with the humidex

Ontario's weather is in for some extreme temperatures this week as temperatures are expected to feel like they're in the 40's with the humidex value.

"Temperatures will jump into the 30s for most of Central Canada this week, as potentially record-setting, and dangerous, heat moves into the region," warns The Weather Network.

"Tuesday through Thursday will see the heat peak as daytime high temperatures jump into the lower to middle 30s," they explain. "Humidex values will be even higher, expected to soar into the mid-40s in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, in and near Ottawa, and across Montreal."

People are advised to avoid strenuous activities, drink plenty of water and keep an eye out for heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Environment Canada currently has a heat warning out for multiple parts of the province and says that the heat event that's starting today is expected to be prolonged and dangerous.

"Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle," they warn. "Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Watch for heat related illness."

Pearson Airport could get close to it's highest June humidex value on record, which was set in 2018 at a whipping 45.6 C, according to TWN.

"The only potential relief from this predicted heat will come from scattered thunderstorms that may erupt in the hot and humid air parked over Ontario and Quebec," they advise. "Any storms or clouds will help to cap daytime temperatures, even if only for a little while."
