A Digital COVID-19 Vaccination Passport Could Be The New Normal In The US

But many have concerns.

COVID-19 vaccines are being administered around the world, but you might need a way to prove you got one in order to travel or enter venues and restaurants.

The idea has been considered by multiple countries, but some, including the World Health Organization (WHO), are not sold on it.

The U.S., United Kingdom, and the European Union are among those considering the idea of a digital vaccination passport.

But some health experts have concerns, as it is not yet known how well the currently offered vaccines can protect against COVID-19 virus variants.

"Just by having a vaccination, depending on the vaccine you have, doesn’t mean you have immunity to COVID," UCSF infectious disease expert Dr. Peter Chin-Hong told NBC.

The WHO is against the idea for the same reason, but it also claims there is still a far too limited number of vaccines being offered to citizens.

"Preferential vaccination of travellers could result in inadequate supplies of vaccines for priority populations considered at high risk of severe COVID-19 disease," said the WHO.

NBC reports that President Joe Biden is currently looking into digital means of vaccination proof.
