There are two types of NAV Canada air traffic controllers: IFR/Area Controllers and VFR/Tower Controllers.
Area Controllers work at one of seven Area Control Centres where air traffic in a large section of Canadian airspace is overseen.
Area Control Centres are located in Vancouver (Surrey), Edmonton (Leduc), Winnipeg, Toronto (Mississauga), Montreal (Dorval), Moncton (Riverview), and Gander.
Tower Controllers work at one of 42 airports across Canada and have a direct view of the airport and aircraft.
These controllers use radio communication to issue instructions and clearances.
