Alberta Just Reported Its Deadliest Day Of COVID-19 In The History Of The Pandemic
On Tuesday, January 12, Dr. Deena Hinshaw addressed the public to provide an update on Alberta's COVID-19 numbers.
She reported 652 new cases in the past 24 hours, noting that 819 Albertans are currently in the hospital with COVID-19 and that more than 30 others have died.

New COVID-19 deaths.
"We must always remember that these figures are not just numbers, but lives," she said, offering condolences to the loved ones of those who have passed away.
Later in the press conference, Dr. Hinshaw answered many questions about vaccine distribution in the province.
"First of all, I’ll say that today is a difficult day where we announced the highest number of deaths reported in a single day, well over 30," she said.
"It’s exactly for that reason that we want to make sure that every Albertan who is at risk gets the vaccine as soon as possible," the doctor added in response to a question about the rapidity of Alberta's current vaccine distribution.
The health official began the conference by updating the public on the province's contact tracing system.
She said that Alberta Health Services is now able to contact all high-priority cases of COVID-19 within 24 hours.
Those people include school kids, health care workers, long-term care workers, and those involved in "critical response."
