Alberta Just Moved Into 'Full Step 2' Of Reopening & Here's What That Means

The path to reopening continues.
Contributor

On Monday, March 8, health officials announced the province will move into "full Step 2" of the Alberta reopening plan after we entered a partial Step 2 a week ago.

Last week, Premier Jason Kenney eased restrictions on indoor fitness and libraries while saying that the rest of Step 2 would be pushed back a little bit.

Now, Alberta is under updated health measures which include all of the lifted restrictions originally planned for Step 2.

Banquet halls, community halls, conference centers, and hotels will now be able to open for activities such as virtual events, permitted performances, wedding ceremonies with up to 10 people, and funerals services with up to 20 people.

Wedding receptions, funeral receptions, and trade shows still aren't allowed.

Retail stores are now able to operate at a maximum capacity of 25% of fire code occupancy, not including staff.

Some restrictions have been lifted for performance activities, so people can now rehearse for and perform virtual shows in keeping with health guidance. These activities are subject to a number of strict guidelines.

Lastly, youth sports and recreation will remain the same as they were in Step 1, meaning that 10 people, including coaches, can practice and train but no games are permitted.

Under current health orders, "low impact" adult fitness is allowed again in small group settings.
