Piper took it away from him and said she found a red and blue pill inside of it.
“When I went to give the cake pop to my other son, that is when I saw the pill,” she told the outlet. “I immediately freaked out and pulled over.”
Starbucks Canada confirmed to Narcity that they are aware of the incident and are investigating with their supplier.
"We have issued a voluntary stop sell and hold on a certain lot of the Birthday Cake Pops in Canada out of an abundance of caution while the investigation is underway," they said via email.
"Delivering a safe and quality experience to our customers is our top priority and we act swiftly whenever a potential concern is raised," Starbucks Canada continued. "We are in contact with the customer and will cooperate with the authorities throughout the investigation."
Comox Valley RCMP confirmed that they have an active investigation open about the incident.
"We will be sending the pill off to our Forensic Laboratory for analysis," said Media Relations Officer Constable Monika Terragni in an email to Narcity.
"At this time, it appears to be an isolated incident. Of course, if anyone experiences something similar, we would like them to call us and make a report right away."
“A cake pop is an easy thing to (buy) for your child, and I would be devastated if it happened to someone else’s child,” Piper said.
