Costco Canada is warning customers about an "important recall notice" involving a salad kit that could make you sick.

On Tuesday, February 6, the retailer shared the recall which apologized for the inconvenience and advised customers to return the product to Costco in order to obtain a refund.

The recall involves Taylor Farms Mexican Style Street Corn Chopped Salad Kit (Costco Item #1785678) that was sold between January 12, 2024 and February 6, 2024.

"In response to a voluntary recall initiated by Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc, who produces and supplies cheese products, Taylor Farms Retail is voluntarily recalling the Mexican Style Street Corn Salad Kit due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes in the Cotija Cheese, an ingredient in the salad kit," says the notice.

It also says that contaminated food might not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, with symptoms ranging from vomiting to nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

"Do not consume the Mexican Style Street Corn Salad Kit," says the recall.

According to an ongoing investigation by the FDA into an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes in the U.S. due to certain dairy products from Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc, there have been 26 cases of reported illnesses, 23 hospitalizations and two deaths associated with consumption of their products.

"In response to this investigation, Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. has voluntarily recalled all sell by dates of its dairy products," says the FDA.

"The recalled products include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream sold under the brand names Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market. The firm has temporarily ceased the production and distribution of these products. while their investigation is ongoing."
