There are more food recalls in Canada related to an outbreak of illnesses in the U.S.

Now, certain President's Choice and Taylor Farms salad kits are being taken off store shelves due to a possible Listeria contamination.

In a recall notice posted on February 7, 2024, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency warned about President's Choice brand and Taylor Farms brand Mexican-Style Street Corn Salad Kits.

Those products are being recalled due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination because they were made with cheese recalled in association with an American investigation.

In the U.S., the FDA is investigating an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections related to queso fresco and cotija cheeses manufactured by Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc.

There have been 26 illnesses, 23 hospitalizations and two deaths, according to the FDA.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency noted that there have been no illnesses reported with these products in Canada.

Here are the recalled products that have been sold nationwide:

  • President's Choice Chopped Mexican-Style Street Corn Salad Kit, 285 grams
    • UPC 0 60383 03491 7
    • best-before dates up to and including 2024 FE 19
  • Taylor Farms Mexican Style Street Corn Salad Kit two pack, 2 x 335 grams
    • UPC 0 30223 06191 5
    • best-before dates up to and including 24 FE 19

You're being told to not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute these recalled products.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said.

Also, certain Taylor Farms salad kits have been recalled at Costco in Canada because of the potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

Shoppers who bought the Taylor Farms Mexican Style Street Corn Chopped Salad Kit — Costco Item #1785678 — at a Costco warehouse or Costco Business Centre between January 12, 2024, and February 6, 2024, are affected by this recall.

The recalled product can be returned to a Costco warehouse in Canada for a full refund.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, food that's contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes might not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
