Mist Mountain hot spring in alberta.

Editor

This hidden hot spring is the reward for a trek up a mountain near Banff, along with the unbeatable views of the rocky peaks beyond.

Mist Mountain is famous for its natural spring, which you can reach by following the Mist Mountain Springs trail — about 6.3 kilometres round trip — and enjoy a dip in the pool of water overlooking the mountainscape.

Set in the Kananaskis area, this hike isn't for beginners. It has a steep climb and challenging terrain in some sections. If you are up for a trek, though, make sure to wear the proper clothing and bring lots of water, snacks, and supplies.

The climb up is gradual but will get your heart pumping from the start. Along the way, you'll be surrounded by the sounds of nature and beautiful views, and you'll even pass by a waterfall.

After about 3 kilometres of hiking, you'll reach the hot springs, where you can soak up the view and get some warmth. There's no private area to change here so make sure to go prepared with a swimsuit on if you want to take a dip.

The pool is relatively small but offers one of the most unique hiking experiences around.

If you want even more of a challenge, you can keep hiking up the Mountain, which gets increasingly challenging but has unbelievable views. You can also opt to head back down the trail after your soak.

AllTrails rates this hike as "hard," warns people that there is no cell phone coverage, and that "backcountry knowledge is essential on this trail due to the remote location," so make sure you go prepared. The Alberta Parks website has more information about backcountry safety.

Once the snow melts, this is the perfect way to soak up warmer weather and get outside!
