A Calgary brewery got some serious heat for making a beer named after "Karen," a name used to describe a certain type of character on the internet.

In early July, Common Crown Brewery released its new beer titled "Cherry Karen Sour." The "Karen" moniker is used to describe a "stereotypical entitled, privileged white woman," according to CTV News.

An anti-racism page in Calgary called out the beer, saying, "How is this okay in any way to 'celebrate karen' who portrays white women who practice their privilege on a daily basis."

Following the backlash, the brewery has deleted the post, removed the beer from their shelves, and admitted that the beer "missed the mark."

They said that being "tone deaf to racial developments is not an excuse" and they promised to do better.

Narcity has reached out to the brewery for comment and we will update this article when we have a response.
