This tool is so fun to watch

Managing Editor, Canada

If you've wondered how much Canada's population can change within just 24 hours, this real-time "population clock" has got you covered!

Statistics Canada has created a live online tool that allows users to watch how the country's population is changing every second, using data related to births, deaths, immigration and emigration.

Statistics Canada

Colour-coded bar charts show how many people in Canada are being born, dying, entering and leaving, alongside a total figure showing how these factors impact the overall population. You can also check out how much the number has changed since midnight.

Below is a real-time representation of how the population is changing in each of Canada's provinces and territories, too.

In 2020, Statistics Canada reported that the country's population growth had "virtually stopped" because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, as of 11:32 a.m. EST on Monday, May 24, Canada's population had reached a total of 38,279,672.
