Canada's Total Number Of COVID-19 Cases Has Now Surpassed 165,000

Across the country, thousands of Canadians continue to test positive for COVID-19 every week. As of October 4, Canada’s total number of COVID-19 cases had surpassed 165,000.

As provinces like Ontario and Quebec recorded considerable spikes this week, the country as a whole has reported its highest seven-day average since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Sunday, more than 165,000 people in Canada had tested positive for the illness. Of those, 16,432 are still considered to be actives case.

As of October 4, 2.1% of people who got tested for COVID-19 in Canada tested positive. 

In the same report, the Government of Canada confirmed that 9,481 Canadians have now died from the illness.

While Quebec and Ontario have reported 79.8% of the country’s cases and 93.4% of Canada’s deaths, other provinces and regions are starting to experience spikes of their own.

For example, almost two-thirds of all known cases in Manitoba were reported in the last six weeks.

In response, Canada’s top doctor has urged Canadians to do some “serious planning” ahead of Thanksgiving this year.
