2 Million Trees Are Being Planted As A 'Living Tribute' To Honour Canada's Veterans

This is not part of the two billion trees promised by Trudeau.

Finding a way to honour those who have sacrificed so much for their country is a noble endeavour, and Canada's veterans are being celebrated through an act that will continue to grow over the years.

The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign is working to plant two million trees in Ontario, one for each Canadian who has served in times of war.

Along with being planted throughout the province, 117,000 of these trees will also be placed along the Highway of Heroes.

2 Million Trees to honour veterans

The initiative is not only being undertaken to pay respect to veterans, but also to make an environmental impact.

"They have fought to protect our land and freedom. It is now our collective duty to protect what they fought for," co-founder and volunteer chair Mark Cullen writes on the campaign's website.

Justin Trudeau tweeted about the work the campaign is doing, calling it, "the world’s largest living memorial."

The prime minister had made a similar promise in September 2019 when he claimed his government would plant two billion trees over 10 years.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh wrote in a tweet one year later that none had yet been planted.
