A Canadian icon and legendary actor has sadly passed away.

Christopher Plummer died on Friday, February 5, 2021 at his home in Connecticut, according to Deadline.

The 91-year-old, who famously played Captain von Trapp in The Sound Of Music, was born in Toronto in 1929.

He was well known for his appearances in many of Ontario's Stratford Festival theatre productions as well.

Fans across the province are taking to social media to share heartfelt messages of remembrance following the announcement of his death.

"Remembering the incredible Christopher Plummer, a magnetic talent, stage and screen legend, and Canadian icon, who has passed away at the age of 91," TIFF shared to Twitter.

Politicians, actresses and other Ontarians also shared messages of love as a tribute to the actor.
