Cineplex Revealed Their Reopening Plan For Canada & It Starts As Early As June

Movie night is coming back!

There’s good news ahead for movie lovers! In a statement on June 15, Cineplex’s reopening plans were revealed. The company intends to start relaunching some stores as early as this month, but your movie night might look a little different.

If you’ve been counting down the days until you can visit the theatre again, Cineplex has some exciting news.

In a notice shared on June 15, the company revealed that it has plans to start reopening some locations as early as June 26, with others following through July 3.

The statement explained, “Cineplex is pleased to see provincial governments begin to loosen restrictions on social gatherings, which will enable it to resume measured operations at its locations of The Rec Room this week in Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton.”

“Cineplex is also working towards reopening six theatres in Alberta on June 26, 2020."

By July 3, the company intends to reopen "as many of its locations as it can," as long as it is permitted under local government restrictions.

The theatre chain also noted that some things may look a little different upon reopening.

In the three months that its venues have been closed, Cineplex has been "diligently preparing" to reopen, with new protocols in place to help physical distancing.

The company explained that it has "carefully reexamined all of its buildings and processes, so that when its theatres and entertainment venues reopen, it will have implemented an industry-leading program with end-to-end health and safety protocols."

To help customers stay apart, reserved seating will be launched in all auditoriums. This will prevent screening rooms from being packed-full and will ensure there is adequate space between viewers.

This latest announcement comes just days after it was revealed that U.K. company Cineworld would no longer be buying the company out, as per a previous takeover agreement.

Legal action is now on the cards, as Cineplex intends to “seek damages for Cineworld's breaches of the agreements.”

In the June 15 notice, Cineplex confirmed that some staff had taken pay cuts and others had been laid off, due to the ongoing pandemic.

The company is yet to share any further information about individual locations reopening but has reassured guests that these details are coming.

Grab your popcorn, Canada. It seems movie night could be just around the corner!
