Canada's COVID-19 Cases Keep Climbing & The Majority Are Young People

Younger people are not immune from this illness. That’s the message coming from Dr. Theresa Tam this long weekend, as she revealed the latest COVID-19 numbers in Canada.

In a notice on September 6, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam confirmed that the country has now reached 131,495 total cases of COVID-19, including 9,143 deaths. 

Tam also noted that an average of 545 new cases are being reported daily across Canada.

Of Canada's COVID-19 cases are under 40 years old

The statement confirmed that younger people still constitutes the highest number of cases.

Individuals under 40 years of age accounted for over 62% of cases in the most recent data, said Tam. Of these, people aged between 20 and 29 had the highest incidence rates.

The top doctor confirmed that outbreaks were taking place in locations like retail venues, bars and restaurants, spaces that often “draw in this younger age demographic.”
