American singer and actor Demi Lovato has revealed they are non-binary and are changing their pronouns to they/them.

In a "very personal" message shared on their social media accounts on May 19, Lovato told fans, "I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward."

"I'm still learning and coming into myself," the singer said, adding that sharing this with fans and followers "opens another level of vulnerability."

In the clip, Lovato explains that using they/them pronouns "best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering."

"I'm doing this for those out there that haven't been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way xox," Lovato captioned the video.

Earlier this month, Instagram announced a brand new feature on the app that allows all users to add pronouns to their profile.
