House Democrats Are Asking Joe Biden For Monthly 'Survival Checks'
The COVID-19 pandemic rages on and some lawmakers are asking President Joe Biden to provide more relief for the American people.
On Thursday, House Representative Ilhan Omar, along with some of her colleagues, sent a letter to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris urging them to consider monthly stimulus payments for most Americans until the pandemic is over.

It's absurd that one-time checks were ever on the table, when we know people are not facing one-time costs during this pandemic.

Omar says that the first two relief bills were only able to help out citizens for a short period of time, as many lower-income households had to exhaust their stimulus checks on things such as monthly rent, utilities and food.
"The stunning financial crisis for those at the bottom of the income ladder demands massive relief to those who need it most," the letter reads, "Recurring direct payments until the economy recovers will help ensure that people can meet their basic needs, provide racially equitable solutions, and shorten the length of the recession."
President Joe Biden's proposed $1.9 trillion relief plan would land $1,400 in most American's pockets, but Omar believes that $2,000 "survival checks" per month until the pandemic is over is what citizens really need.
The letter received support from over 50 other House members, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Alma Adams of North Carolina.
Biden had not provided comments on the request.
