There are some products at the dollar store that are cheaper than Costco items, even though they're not bulk-sized.

You might expect that the bulk products at the wholesale retailer always get you the most value.

But a few of the smaller-sized items at this Canadian dollar store are actually cheaper than the bigger products at Costco.

Not only do the items have smaller price tags to begin with, but they're also cheap when the price is broken down by how much of the product you get!

So, if you want to shop for value, here are seven products you can get at Dollarama stores in Canada that won't cost you more at Costco Canada stores.

Bread

It costs $5.89 for a pack of three 675-gram loaves of white Wonder bread at Costco.

That price breaks down to $0.29 per 100 grams

It costs $2 for a 675-gram bag of white Wonder bread at Dollarama.

That means you pay $0.29 per 100 grams.

Buying the product doesn't cost you more at Dollarama like you might expect it to.

Even though the Costco product is bigger and you get three loaves instead of one, you don't actually get more bang for your buck.

It works out to the same price per 100 grams, and the Dollarama price tag is cheaper to begin with.

Instant coffee

That means you pay $3 per 100 grams.

It's $1.75 cheaper per 100 grams to get the product at Dollarama rather than the name-brand product at Costco.

That means you pay $1.04 per bowl and $1.21 per 100 grams.

It costs $1.25 for two 65-gram bowls of Bowlful instant noodles that come in various flavours, including chicken and beef.

That works out to $0.62 per bowl and $0.96 per 100 grams.

The instant noodles at Dollarama are $0.42 cheaper per bowl and $0.25 cheaper per 100 grams than the instant noodles at Costco.

Dollarama also has bags of instant noodles that are even cheaper than both of these products!

That means you pay $1.76 per 100 grams and $0.45 per bag.

You might expect the Costco product to be cheaper because it's bulk-sized and it's not a name brand.

But the item at Dollarama is $0.18 cheaper per 100 grams and $0.09 cheaper per bag.

At Dollarama, you can get a pack of Bounty paper towels that comes with two rolls for $5.

That price works out to a cost of $2.50 per roll.

So, you save $0.20 per roll with the Dollarama product.
