Alberta's COVID-19 cases continue to climb and the Thanksgiving long weekend was no exception to the trend. 

Dr. Deena Hinshaw addressed the public on Tuesday, October 13 in an Alberta COVID-19 update. 

During the address, the province's top doctor explained that an average of 240 cases were recorded per day over the long weekend.

She said that on Friday, 236 new cases were identified. On Saturday, there were 259 new cases. Finally, on Sunday, there were 264 new cases. 

She went on to explain that Edmonton is still the biggest hot spot in the province. She said people in the city need to be extra diligent. 

The doctor also announced that there have been four new deaths, and offered her sympathies to the families who lost loved ones over the holiday weekend. 

She also went on to say that Alberta will now be administering COVID-19 tests by appointment only. 

So, if you want to get tested, you'll need to book in advance.
