A switch to electric vehicles could be coming sooner than drivers thought. Honda announced that in less than 20 years, it wants all of its vehicle sales in Canada and the rest of North America to be electric vehicles.

The goal, which was announced on April 23, will see staggered targets of having 40% of sales be electric vehicles by 2030, 80% by 2035 and 100% by 2040.

The car company has plans to launch new electric vehicle models later this decade to make that happen.

This could mean a big switch for Canadian drivers down the road, as two different Honda models were among the best-selling cars in the country.

In 2020, 42,996 Honda Civics were sold, making it the seventh most popular car in Canada, while 44,495 Honda CRVs were sold, making it the sixth most popular.
