Canada Just Extended The US Border Closure Into 2021

You're not going south this year!
Contributor

If you were hoping to head south, you may need to reconsider. The Canada-U.S. travel restrictions and border closure have been extended again, and this time it goes into the new year.

Canada's Public Safety Minister, Bill Blair, announced on December 11, 2020, that the non-essential travel restrictions between the two countries would remain in place until January 21, 2021.

This is the ninth time the border closure has been extended since it was first put in place back in March, when the pandemic was getting underway.

It means that recreational travel between Canada and the United States is not allowed and that only essential trips, like frontline workers travelling to work or truck drivers and deliveries, will be allowed to happen.

This extension also comes shortly after news that a COVID-19 vaccine has been approved in Canada.

While the Pfizer vaccine is set to roll out here as early as next week, travel is still going to be a no-go.

Meanwhile, south of the border, President Trump took to Twitter on December 11 to complain that the FDA was slower in their approval of the same vaccine.
