Trudeau Congratulated Kamala Harris On A 'Historic' Win & Said She's An Inspiration

The PM had kind words for Biden, too! 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Managing Editor, Canada

Justin Trudeau has congratulated both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their U.S. election win, describing the events as a “historic milestone”

During a press conference on November 9, Canada's PM began by saying he was "looking forward" to working with the newly-elected American leaders.

He also had a special message for the new vice president, Kamala Harris.

"For so many people in Canada and around the world, seeing a woman — and a Black and South Asian-American woman — elected as the next vice-president of the United States is an inspiration," said Trudeau.

He added, “And a reminder that everyone's voice belongs in politics."

Harris will be the first female vice president, as well as the first woman of colour in the role.

With that in mind, several of Canada’s leading politicians reached out to her specifically to share their well-wishes.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said “thank you” to the new VP, and said, “Today, you've made history.”

While Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland described Harris as “an inspiration to women & girls and to people of colour across our continent.”
