Canadian Tire Stores In Ontario Glitched Out & Scanned Everything As Mr. Potato Head
On Monday, a computer glitch at five separate Canadian Tire stores in Ontario made every single item scan as Mr. Potato Head. Yes, the one-and-only moustachioed toy from your childhood. The Canadian Tire glitch was likely very confusing for employees, who were forced to close up shop to deal with their peculiar potato problem.
According to myKawartha, the system glitch affected five stores in Lindsay and Whitby at around 7 a.m. on Monday.
Apparently any item that was scanned — be that a new BBQ, some household items or even a lightbulb — showed up as Mr. Potato Head. His product number and information would come up every single time.
The plastic toys retail for $9.99 or $29.99 according to the Canadian Tire website, so you can imagine the customers' delight when they saw that price appear on the register.
"This was an anomaly that occurred yesterday morning only at our Lindsay and Whitby stores," Joscelyn Dosanjh, Corporate Communications Manager for Canadian Tire, told Narcity.
"A point of sale downloading error caused item names to appear incorrectly, however, item prices and item numbers were registering correctly."
"It has since been corrected and the stores are operating normally."
According to myKawartha, the ordeal lasted only about an hour and a half at the Lindsey locations.
