The University of Guelph is considering enforcing a curfew after a COVID-19 outbreak on campus.

President Charlotte Yates announced on Sunday that the new safety measures would target student residences.

We will be keeping a close eye on compliance and will consider implementing a curfew if necessary to help ensure the health and safety of our campus and wider Guelph community. President Charlotte Yates

Despite the warning, it is still unclear how this curfew would be implemented across campus.

The university revealed last week that it was dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak in the aftermath of several unsanctioned social gatherings.

"So far, more than two dozen students have tested positive, and, unfortunately, the numbers may rise as more test results are returned," Yates added.

Several cases were traced to the school's East Village Townhouses, an on-campus residence.

The outbreak was linked to multiple on-campus gatherings that were held in the area between January 15 and 16.

The university has since increased cleaning and disinfecting in its residences.
