Calgary Has Canada's First Ever 'Ice Bikes' & You Can Rent Them This Winter
The City of Calgary has proudly announced the addition of some nifty new ice bikes that are about to change the way you ice skate in YYC.
In a video announcement, The City of Calgary said that the sport is brand new and that they're welcoming over 10 ice bikes, the first of their kind in the country.

Basically, they’re regular bikes but the wheels are surrounded by skates. Thanks to the wide base, balancing isn’t a problem, all you need to do is pedal and steer like you would on a normal bike.
They’re single-speed and you just need to pedal backwards to brake like when you were a kid.
The bikes are located at Bowness Park and you can rent them from the Skate Shop for $12 for a half-hour and $20 for an hour.
The idea came from the same sort of model in Switzerland and soon enough they landed in Calgary.
Bowness Park is home to a 1.6-kilometre skating trail so you can get some real distance in on these babies.
Whether you're not the strongest ice skater or you're just looking to try something new, these fun additions are the perfect option.
