A Rare 'Strawberry Moon' Will Rise Over Florida On Friday

Take in the dreamy views.
Contributor

A Strawberry Moon will rise in Florida skies this week. On Friday, June 4, this beautiful astronomic event will take place high above the Sunshine State as the last full moon of the season. It's often tinged with sunset hues on the horizon, so prepare for an incredibly pretty display. This full moon over Florida will take your breath away.

The moon will appear full from Thursday, June 4 to Friday, June 5. Toward the end of this week, set up a cozy spot on your porch for moongazing. Think blankets, pillows, snacks, and a telescope, if you have one.

June's gorgeous lunar event is called the Strawberry Moon because it falls during the strawberry harvesting season. It's also sometimes called the "Hot Moon" or "Rose Moon," which "come from traditional names given by Native Americans."

The best time to see this celestial occurrence in Florida is about 8:20 p.m. on Friday when the moon is rising. It's the perfect way to end your week, so get comfortable after work and admire the night sky.

The Strawberry Moon often appears colorful because of its low angle in the summer sky. You can enjoy its orange and yellow hues that blend perfectly with the glowing sunset. It's a truly remarkable experience that can be shared with a significant other or admired by yourself.

If you can, head to the beach to watch it rise over the water. You'll see the orange moonlight illuminate the waves.

This year's celestial event will also show a penumbral eclipse in Asia, Africa, and Australia. If you can't make the trip out of the country, don't worry, this dreamy sight will take place in North America just a month later on July 5, 2020.

With many celebrations canceled at the moment, this natural display may be a welcome replacement to the lack of fireworks this year.

Break out your telescope this week and start moongazing. This enchanting night sky event above Florida will make you feel like you're at one with the universe.
