There's a park in upstate New York that has hidden lakes with surprisingly turquoise water — something rarely seen in the state.

At Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, you can find Green Lake and Round Lake — two unique lakes that are a gorgeous aquamarine color.

These bodies of water are exceptional because they are a rare type of lake — a meromictic lake — and there are only about a dozen in the U.S. and just over 50 in the entire world.

They're even more special because New York experiences all four seasons, so where you'd usually only find these blue waters in tropical locations, you get to see the aqua lakes complemented by colorful leaves in the fall.

And come wintertime, the park turns into a winter wonderland surrounded by snow-covered trees.

The lakes also have shelves of limestone reefs that you can see right through the clear water, making it look like the Caribbean.
